The Goretti Group Gazette Aug, 2008 Introduction Dear Friends, Our efforts to bring you quality speakers and the faithful teachings of the Catholic Church on marriage have been a blessing to us. The work we do everyday is dedicated to promoting God’s reign in human hearts. It is all worth it when we see participants understanding and embracing the teachings of the Church which were made for them to make them happy. We are gratified to see daily progress in this field of work to bring the truth about marriage to those who listen to our talks. We encourage everyone to do what they can to spread the knowledge of God’s plan for human love at every level of society. The New Civil Rights Movement by Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse I recently participated in a conference sponsored by Southern Carolina Parents Involved in Education. As I looked out over the audience of high school and middle school abstinence educators, I saw what I usually see among pro-family, pro-life groups: The audience is easily two-thirds women. Long ago, I concluded that the pro-life movement is the new women's movement. But at this conference, I noticed that half the audience was African-American. Is the abstinence education movement the new civil rights movement? I think it may be. |

Where is America’s Openness to Life? By Carlos Tejeda How is our country responding, as a whole, to the Vicar of Christ as he urges authentic pursuit of Christ in our Marriages? July 25 just passed marking the 40th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI’s Encyclical Letter on the value of Human Life and the importance of Marriage retaining its “two inseparable aspects: union and procreation.” [1] Celebrating this prophetic work of Pope Paul VI is highly appropriate and worthwhile at this milestone after its issuing. Also worthwhile at this time is beginning a discussion (I say beginning because I haven’t heard the discussion previously) about the role that different ethnic groups are playing in American society as regards its openness to life. It seems to me that without immigrant cultures, American society would be even less open to life and more directly doomed to an even worse population implosion than it is already headed for.
